Tropical Carpet Grass

Australia’s best performing carpet grass

Tropical Carpet Grass is a warm season perennial species that spreads via low growing stolons. Selected by Lawn Solutions Australia as the very best performing carpet grass variety, it is best suited to the North Queensland and Northern Territory regions.

A dense turf suited to lawns, parks and sports fields

Tropical Carpet Grass has course textured leaves that will form dense turf of moderate quality. The colour is green to light green in growing season becoming red when dormant under cool conditions.

Tropical Carpet Grass is suited for home lawns, summer sport fields, parks and reserves. A unique trait of this grass is the red tinge created on the edge of the leaves during the cooler temperatures of winter.

  • Dense growing
  • Green to light green colour
  • Broad leaf
  • Attractive curling on the edges

A low maintenance grass

The mowing and nutrition maintenance needs of Tropical Carpet Grass is generally low once the lawn is established. It spreads horizontally via low growing stolons rather than growing upwards, and can therefore be allowed to grow longer before mowing without the risk of scalping the grass.

It has good shade tolerance (can tolerate up to 75% shade), and has high water requirements. It is better suited to lower traffic areas.

Low maintenance lawn grass in Australia

  • Requires less mowing
  • Rarely needs fertilising
  • Shade tolerant
  • Pest and disease resistant

Well suited to Tropical Queensland and the NT

Tropical Carpet Grass is most commonly found in the Northern tropical parts of Queensland and in Darwin and the Northern Territory. It is very well adapted to the climate and environment there and is widely used in residential and commercial landscaping. The leaves are approximately 6mm wide, wider than the common narrow leaf carpet grass, and have a unique curling along the edges, creating a unique texture of grass.

Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG Grass

A new and improved kikuyu available in Victoria only

Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG was specially developed to have brand new characteristics for kikuyu in all the traits where the old style common kikuyu fell so short. It has improved capacity to cope with the cooler winter months and is available from Lawn Solutions Australia accredited growers in Victoria only.

Perfect for spaces with high traffic

Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG Grass is ideal to use in those very high use situations where aggressive growth is required to cope with wear and tear. It is especially suited for areas which need to sustain high traffic during winter, as it is more active than other drought tolerant turf varieties during dormancy.

It has an excellent dark green colour that holds into winter when traditional kikuyu is yellowing off.

  • Excellent dark green colour that holds into winter
  • Aggressive growth
  • Suited for areas which need to sustain high traffic during winter

Tolerates low maintenance regimes

Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG Grass is very aggressive and performs very well under low maintenance regimes where water and fertiliser is limited, making it ideal for green space corridors, low maintenance ovals, nature strips or residential yards without automated irrigation.

  • Performs very well under low maintenance regimes
  • Ideal for spaces without irrigation systems

Weed and drought tolerant

With deeper roots and rhizomes than common Kikuyu, Eureka Kikuyu Premium VG Grass is also more drought tolerant, which means less water is required to keep the lawn healthy. It also has a denser sward, which means less chance of weed invasion.

Strong deep root base

If this lawn is loved too much, it will be extremely high maintenance, so is perfect for anyone who wants a lawn they rarely have to fertilise or irrigate – but be prepared to mow regularly during peak summer periods! As with all Kikuyu grasses, Eureka will not perform well in shaded areas – it requires full sun.

  • Less chance of weed invasion
  • Loves full sun
  • Heat and drought tolerant
