Teven Valley Golf Club is a 9-hole golf course on the Northern New South Wales.
It is a beautiful little course that has a couple creeks and a river adjacent where platypus swim.
The course was purchased in February 2016 with the plan to complete a 9-hole, 18 tee golf course total revamp.
Craig Parry Design
Craig Parry was entrusted with the new design for the course. Craig has been one of Australia’s premier golfers since turning professional in 1985, and has 23 career victories, two of those wins being events on the PGA Tour.
Craig is committed to excellence in the design and construction of golf facilities and strives to create the best courses possible to meet his client’s expectations.
Daleys Turf
Daleys Turf have been contracted to supply the Teven Valley Golf Course with Sir Grange. Sir Grange is exclusively available to AusGAP certified turf growers. Craig Parry has played golf on Zeon (Sir Grange) in the USA, and said, if Sir Grange is available in Australia then that’s the grass we want at Teven. Tif Eagle was also selected as the turf variety for the greens being built to PGA specifications.
Sir Grange
Sir Grange is a fine bladed premium turf variety, which has high shade tolerance and very low nutrient and water requirements. Sir Grange was originally developed for the golf industry.
Its adaptability to a variety of climates, and its beautiful dark green leaf have seen it become the #1 selling zoysia grass in the USA.
Project Overview
Project Manager
Paul Gumbleton – Ex Monash Country Club superintendent
Construction commenced – November 2017
Practice green installed – December 2017
Seventh green completed – March 2018
Initially the plan was to close the course during construction, but due to the members concerns on missing out on playing at ‘Royal’ Teven it was decided to build the project on a hole by hole basis.
Rich volcanic red soil has wonderful qualities but also comes with its own difficulties in shaping and compacting. Now that we are understanding how Sir Grange grows and reacts with the volcanic red soil which Teven is based on, the results so far are stunning.
